Technology Staff

Taking full advantage of 21st Century Classroom Technology Funds provided by the state, several teachers applied for and received Tech Mini-Grants. The teachers submitted their grant applications to the Superintendent and the Technology Director. All of the grants had merit so the administration decided to fund them all. The primary objective for most of the grants were to improve reading, writing and math abilities. The projects awarded were as follows:

  1. 8 iPads with Reading and Math Apps for 1st Grade at Priest River Elementary
  2. 10 iPads with Science Apps for Priest River Lamanna High School
  3. 3 Laptops with Microsoft Office for 5th/6th Grade at Priest Lake Elementary
  4. 15 Google Chromebooks for Math/Science at Priest River Junior High School
  5. 26 Microsoft Surface RT tablets for Social Studies at Priest River Junior High School
  6. 25 Microsoft Surface RT tablets for 4th Grade at Priest River Elementary
  7. 20 Google Chromebooks for 6th Grade at Priest River Elementary
  8. 3 Hatch Early Learning Tablets for Pre-School at Priest River Elementary

  • Converted our WAN to a hosted firewall system. Along with our internal content filter the system is secure and safe.
  • Took advantage of Erate funding to upgrade the phone system district-wide to an internet-based VOIP phone system. Now every classroom and office has a phone providing a quicker response in an emergency.
  • The State installed integrated Wi-Fi to the high school and Alternative school. We moved the wireless access points that we already had in those schools to the other buildings resulting in 100% of our classrooms and offices having wireless capability.
  • Replaced all teacher computers with refurbished Dell OptiPlex 960 or 760 computers. These computers are off-lease computers refurbished by Dell that are like new but we get them for 1/3 the price of a new computer. We load them with the latest Windows operating systems and software and expect them to last for 5 years. The computers we take out are either placed in the classroom as a student computer or if they are too old, recycled.
  • Utilized the Erate program to save the district thousands of dollars on internet and phone service. Federal Funds subsidize us for 80% of the costs on those services.
  • Started replacing 10 year old classroom projectors to newer, more energy efficient models that are also brighter with better resolution.
